Alinka Echeverria

In her artistic practice, Alinka Echeverria (b. Mexico City 1981) engages debates of alternative modernities to explore human connection to place, belief systems, collective memory and the fluidity of identity. Her work, usually presented as immersive photographic installations, specifically addresses representational constructs. A 2008 graduate of the International Center of Photography in New York, she additionally earned an MA in Social Anthropology at The University of Edinburgh. Named ‘International Photographer of the Year’ of 2012 by the Lucie Awards, Echeverria previously won the HSBC Prize for Photography in 2011. Her work has been exhibited in over sixty exhibitions worldwide and published in numerous publications including The British Journal of Photography, Ojo de Pez, Le Monde Magazine, GEO, C-Photo, Foam, Gup, Hotshoe and European Photography.
